MUMBAI, Feb 25: A vehicle laden with gelatin sticks was found parked near “Antilia,” the residence of the top industrialist Mukesh Ambani, in Mumbai, on Thursday evening creating bomb scare in the commercial capital of the country.
The bomb disposal squad of the Mumbai police later towed away the abandoned green colour Scorpio car. Police sources said they have found a stockpile of explosive gelatin material in the car.
The “suspicious” vehicle was found parked on Carmichael Road. PRO Mumbai Police said Gamdevi Police Station Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad team and other Police teams reached the spot, “examined the vehicle and found some explosive material, Gelatin, inside. It’s not an assembled explosive device.”
“We are investigating the matter. Suspect car is being examined. Let’s wait for the investigation,” the police said.
The police were alerted after Ambani’s security personnel notified them on it. Over a hundred police personnel reached the spot with the bomb detection and disposal squad, dog squad, and quick response team (QRT) commandos.
Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police V N Patil said the car in which the sticks were found had a registration number similar to that of a vehicle in the security detail of the Ambanis. A letter has also been recovered from the vehicle. The matter has been handed over to the crime branch for further investigation.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh confirmed the incident and said, “The matter is being probed by Mumbai crime branch, so that the truth comes to the fore as soon as possible.”
