New Delhi: Despite political differences, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is known to have sent gifts like sweets and kurtas to the Prime Minister, gifted a saree to Jashodaben, the PM’s wife at Kolkata on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, she called on the PM also and gifted him sweets and kurtas.
According to media reports, on Tuesday, Mamata ran into Jashodaben at Kolkata Airport before boarding her flight to New Delhi. “It was a chance meeting and they exchanged greetings. The CM also gifted her a saree,” said a Mamata aide.
Jashodaben had, on Monday, offered a pooja at Kalyaneshwar Temple at Asansol in Paschim Barddhaman district of West Bengal, about 70 km from Dhanbad, which she visited for two days. After this, Jashodaben left for Kolkata to catch a flight to Ahmedabad. It was here that Mamata ran into her.
Early on Tuesday, Mamata had greeted the PM on Twitter on his 69th birth anniversary. Modi also thanked her on the micro-blogging site.
The last time Mamata had met Modi was at the Vishwa Bharati University at Shanti Niketan on May 25, 2018.
She described her three-day visit to New Delhi as a “routine one”, adding she would raise various issues of West Bengal, including its economy, during his meeting with the PM.
