- Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna, Government of India has announced that it will provide 5 kg. free food grains.
- Citizens covered under National Food Security Act, 2013 will be beneficiaries of this scheme.
- Up to June-2021, free food (wheat or rice) at a scale of 5 kg per person will be provided.
- Approximately 80 crores people will take benefit of this scheme.
- In addition to NFSA, people covered under Antyoday Anna Yojna will also get benefit of this scheme till June-2021.
- This entire scheme will cost around 26000 crores to Central Government.
- Implementation responsibility will be with Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
