SAARC Diary: Maldives FM visits Bangladesh, inks MoUs
New Delhi: During the just-concluded four-day visit of Maldives Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid to Bangladesh on Thursday, the two member-nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) signed a number of agreements to take their mutual cooperation to the next level.
They agreed to reinforce their bilateral partnership in the healthcare, commerce, building materials, packaged fruits, vegetables, home appliances and agro-products sectors. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between them as also an agreement between the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives and the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy (FSA).
They also decided to set up a Joint Commission for Comprehensive Cooperation, chaired by the two Foreign Ministers, and the annual Foreign Office Consultations (FOC). President Ibrahim Solih is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in March 2021 to attend the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Independence of Bangladesh and the centenary festivities of the nation’s founder Sheikh Mujib Ur Rehman.
Besides, they also decided to collaborate in the fisheries sector.
