Heavy Rain in Hyderabad: State Government appeals citizens to stay at home

HYDERABAD: The way heavy rain disturbed life of people of Hyderabad, Telangana government announced a two days holiday and appealed to the people to stay safe at home.

Principal Secretary in Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Arvind Kumar tweeted that “In view of incessant rains, the state government has declared a holiday today & tomorrow for all private institutions /offices / non-essential services with work from Home advisory!”

As the situation created in Hyderabad after rain, Arvind Kumar and MAUD Minister KT Rama Rao appealed to people to stay at home and not venture out unless it’s an emergency.

On the situation in Hyderabad, Kumar informed that “@TsspdclCorporat had disconnected power supply in most parts yesterday as measure of abundant caution, in order to avoid eventualities & it’s being restored depending upon colony conditions. Kindly bear as it’s for public safety.”

To save the life of people, Rama Rao ordered officials to take necessary steps in various parts of the city. All necessary support measures will be taken by the government.

Rama Rao instructed that the homeless persons should be shifted to GHMC Night Shelter immediately. Town planning authorities have also been instructed to inspect construction sites and prevent any possible accidents. Officials have also been directed to evacuate people residing in dilapidated buildings.

At least 15 people have lost their lives so far in Hyderabad due to incessant downpour since last night. Out of the 15, three died after the wall of a house collapsed in Gaganpahad area of Shamshabad in Hyderabad last night, due to heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad as it said that the deep depression was now moving towards Maharashtra. Heavy rains are expected in Vikarabad, Siddipet and Jagaon districts of Telangana.
