- Covid Warrior Insurance Scheme under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna is extended for another year by Government of India.
- This scheme was launched in March-2020 which was supposed to be end by 24th March, 2021.
- Additionally Government of India has provided one month time to receive final claims till 24th April, 2021.
- Under this scheme health worker gets insurance for 90 days treatment and insurance cover up to Rs. 50 lakh.
- The scheme provided relief to the dependents of health workers who lost their lives fighting COVID-19.
- The health insurance under the scheme was provided through New India Insurance Company.
- Till date scheme had approved 287 claims so far.
- With double mutant variant variety spreading rapidly, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is increasing. At this stage, the closure of the scheme will put the health workers and their dependents in a highly distressed state.
