NEW DELHI, Jan 4: In response to an urgent request from the Government of Maldives, India has dispatched 2400 vials of 10 doses of  Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine primarily used for tuberculosis.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives in a statement expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister of India, the Government, and the citizens of India for their timely assistance at all times.

The shipment was airlifted from Mumbai in collaboration with Government agencies, the Ministry of Health, the High Commission of the Maldives in Delhi, and the Consulate of the Maldives in Mumbai on December 31.

India has extended a $500 million package to fund a project in the Maldives during September. India and the Maldives, beginning November 2018, under the dispensation of current incumbent President Ibrahim Solih, has embarked on a dynamic and ambitious process of partnership that builds on longstanding ties focused on mutual trust and common interests.
