NEW DELHI, Dec 14: The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Vladimir Norov and diplomats from the member states of the bloc attended the opening session of the film series ‘cinemaSCOpe’ hosted by the Indian Embassy on Saturday.
Prasar Bharti, Beijing in, a series of tweets stated, “SCO Secy. Gen. said that #cinemaSCOpe will coincide with the #SCO’Year of Culture’ in 2021 as SCO celebrates 20 years of its formation. Global influence of Indian Cinema, sp. Bollywood is unparalleled and hs helped propagate Indian culture, civilizational message to far off places.”
“’CinemaSCOpe’ series, being exclusively screened for the diplomats and their families of the SCO countries, commenced on Saturday at the Indian Embassy premises with the screening of Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’.”
The event was, jointly opened by Vikram Misri Indian Ambassador to China along with Vladimir Norov joined by SCO diplomats and their families.
The Embassy of India in China in a series of tweet stated, “#cinemaSCOpe a movie series exclusive for the #SCO Family was inaugurated today jointly by Amb@VikramMisri and #SCO SG Vladimir Norov. #3idiots was the inaugural movie.”
“Amb@VikramMisri highlighted #cinemaSCOpe as a start on the road to build relationships through the medium of cinema, celebrating the successful conduct of the #SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting on Nov 30 and start a new track of bringing the #SCO Family together”.
More than two dozen Indian films, dubbed in Russian, will be shown monthly till India’s chairmanship of the 8, member SCO ‘Council of Heads of State’ meeting in 2023. The eight member countries who are part of SCO are China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and India.
In his address to the conference, Misri stated, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea for an ‘SCO Film Festival’ was under consideration of the member states.

As a part of this SCO project, ten Indian titles written by literary scholars have been translated and published by Sahitya Akademi in Chinese and Russian and includes books such as (in alphabetical order of languages) ‘Surujmukhir Swapna’ by Syed Abdul Malik (Assamese), ‘Arogya Niketan’ written by Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay (Bengali), ‘Vevishaal’ by Jhaverchand Meghani (Gujarati), ‘Kavve Aur Kala Pani’ by Nirmala Verma (Hindi),
‘Parva’ by S.L.Bhyrappa (Kannada), ‘Manoj Dasanka Katha O Kahani’ by Sahitya Akademi Award winner Manoj Das (Odia), ‘Marhi Da Deeva’ (the lamp of the tomb) by Gurdial Singh portraying rural Punjab during the post-independence days (Punjabi), ‘Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal’ by Jayakanthan (Tamil), ‘Illu’ (the house) by Rachakonda Viswanatha Sastry (Telugu), ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’ by Rajinder Singh Bedi (Urdu)
