World Malaria Day: April 25

- World Malaria Day is celebrated every year on 25th April by WHO.
- Theme of this year is “Reaching the Zero Malaria Target”.
- WHO has total eleven official Global Public Health campaigns and one of which is World Malaria Day.
- Earlier this day was known as African Malaria Day.
- Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasite. The disease spreads to the humans through the bite of female Anopheles mosquito.
- Malaria in India
- As per WHO report, India represents 3% of total global malaria cases.
- India has set a target of becoming Malaria free country by 2027 and elimination by 2030.
- Recently ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that in 2020, 116 Indian districts reported zero Malaria case.
