NEW DELHI, Oct 10: Vikram Kumar Doraiswami, a 1992 batch IFS officer, has taken over charge as India’s New High commissioner in Bangladesh.

Later in an interaction with the media in Dhaka, Doraiswami said, “Let me stress that Bangladesh is, was, and will always be a very, special partner of India. We do our best to live up to the expectations of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Doraiswamy arrived in Bangladesh by the Brahmanbaria Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost on October 5 and was cordially received and welcomed by Akhaura UNO Mohammad Nur-e-Alam, besides others. On his arrival, he said India would work on strengthening partnership with Bangladesh for mutual benefit and he would do his best to carry out the assignment of nurturing bilateral ties between the two countries. “Bangladesh is the nearest neighbour and friend of India and I shall work not only for improving but also enhancing the relationship,” he said.

Bangladesh incidentally is celebrating its 50th Liberation anniversary this year. The Indian diplomat stated he would hear Bangladeshi people’s expectations and would communicate with the leaders back in India. He added the north eastern states in India are of paramount importance for building stronger friendship between the two countries and stressed on enhancing trade and commerce through employing river and road communication.
