Good News: World’s happiest country facing scarcity of workers, hiring IT professionals from India
New Delhi: The world’s happiest country Finland – located in the North of Europe – facing a shortage of workers in the country. Finland is on top of the list of the world’s happiest countries for the last four years.
According to the media report, the Nordic country is facing an acute workforce shortage and recruiters are seeking IT professionals from India.
The United Nations in its reports said that “Finland is second only to Japan in the extent of its aging population, and by 2030 the ‘old-age dependency ratio’ will rise to 47.5 percent.
The Government of Finland has to double immigration levels to 20,000-30,000 a year to maintain public services. The current population of Finland is 5.5 million.
Finland faces anti-immigrant sentiment and a reluctance to employ outsiders.
Charles Mathies, a research fellow at the Academy of Finland, is a part of the government’s “Talent Boost” program, now in its fourth year, which aims to make the country more attractive internationally.
Finland’s main target for employing workforce includes health workers from Spain, metalworkers from Slovakia, and IT and maritime experts from Russia, India, and Southeast Asia, Charles Mathies told media.
Meanwhile, Helsinki mayor Jan Vapaavuori is hopeful about Finland’s ability to attract talent from Asia in the future and believes people’s priorities will have changed post coronavirus pandemic.
