BENGALURU, Sep 7: After more than two years of merger, Vodafone and Idea on Monday announced a new identity “Vi.”
Vodafone Idea is a joint venture between Britain’s Vodafone and India’s Idea Cellular.
A company spokesman said the new nomenclature would consolidate both the brands into a single identity. Both the companies continued their independent brand and advertising campaigns post the merger in August 2018. Idea was believed to be a mass rural focused brand while Vodafone was labelled as a premium urban brand.
“The integration of two brands is a culmination of the largest telecom integration in the world,” the company said in a statement.
Kumar Mangalam Birla chairman of the Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Aditya Birla Group, said, “The “New Brand identity is a reflection of both brands. The World had never seen a merger and integration of this size and scale in the telecom sector. Both Vodafone and Idea have set new benchmarks in network experience, rural connectivity, customer service, enterprise mobility solutions and many more fields.”
“We stand committed to partner government to accelerate progression towards digital economy,” he added.
“The move signifies the vision of a connected digital India,” Ravinder Takkar, CEO, Vodafone India said
The announcement helped stock of the company to go up by around 3% in the stock exchange.
