US Prez’s election: Now, even Democrats may support India on J&K

New Delhi: Come the 2020 Presidential election in the USA, even the Democratic Party is likely to revise its stand on India’s policy on Jammu and Kashmir and scrapping of its “special status” by abrogating the Article 370.

The incumbent US President Donald Trump, who is likely to seek a second term, and his Republican Party, had already supported India on the move.

Over the years, the Indian-Americans have emerged as a powerful voice and bloc of voters in the American elections. Both the principal parties have been trying to woo these crucial opinion-makers and voters.

Earlier, the Democratic Party, apparently under Pakistani ‘influence’, had opposed India’s move on J&K and sought to protect the “fundamental rights” of the Kashmiris. But it quickly realized its folly.

Learning a lesson from the recent poll outcome in London, where British voters rejected the Liberal and Labour parties for opposing India on the J&K issue, the American Democrats have also realized that any folly on this count may boomerang on them and help Trump get a second term as President, the way the UK re-elected incumbent Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In order to woo the Indian-American voters, Trump has been celebrating the Diwali at the White House and greeting the Indians on other festivals, the way his predecessor Barack Obama did. Many American politicians, too, have been doing similar attempts.

While Trump is trying to woo back the Indian-Americans in view of any electoral losses due to the impeachment issue, the Democrats, too, are doing the same.

Whatever the outcome, it may be Advantage India!
