New Delhi: England will play in the European Football Championship Cup 2021 finals for the first time since 1966 after beating Denmark in a 2-1 score on Thursday.
England has won a semi-final match for the first time since the 1966 World Cup.
Harry Kane’s goal propelled England’s win over Denmark in an intriguing match at the Wembley Stadium. Kane scored the goal in extra time, thereby giving England a straight entry in the finals.
Denmark took the lead at the 30th minute after Mikkel Damesguard scored a free-kick from 25 meters. But 9 minutes later, England leveled the score by penetrating Denmark’s defense and making it a tie.
None of the teams could score in the second half of the match leading to extra time where Denmark’s own-goal and debatable penalty put them in a questionable spot. England grabbed the opportunity and scored a final goal.
Now England will face Italy for the trophy on Sunday. Italy recently defeated their arch-rivals Spain 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the semi-finals.
