Prime Minister Boris Johnson to visit India next month

New Delhi: The London Government on Tuesday announced that Prime Minister of the UK – Boris Johnson will visit India at the end of next month. PM Johnson’s visit to India will be the first major international trip of Prime Minister Johnson after Britain’s exit from the European Union.

Johnson had planned an Indian visit in January as part of efforts to speed up trade talks between the two nations but was forced to cancel amid a surge of COVID-19 infections at home.

On March 15 – Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shrigla held a comprehensive discussion with the UK Minister of State for Foreign Commonwealth and Development Affairs Tariq Ahmed in New Delhi. They had discussed the issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

According to political experts – the United Kingdom and India may focus to build strong relations in the health and defence sectors. Production of coronavirus vaccine is a huge challenge for all nations and the UK may give an order of production of coronavirus vaccine in India.

Some Business and Trade experts also believe that – trade between India and the UK may increase in the future due to Brexit. The London government will have to find ways to increase its trade after withdrawing its name from the European Union.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar received Ahmed and discussed the India-UK bilateral ties and global cooperation. The visiting leader also met the Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy.
