Gujarat Rajya Sabha Member Abhay Bhardwaj (BJP) Consumed by Corona

AHMEDABAD, Dec 1: The BJP Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat, Abhay Bhardwaj, who was elected to the Upper House only in June, this year, died in Chennai on Tuesday after battling against Corona for over three months.

A journalist when he was still in college, a successful lawyer and a social activist, Bhardwaj was born in Uganda in April, 1954. He had his education in Rajkot and had joined the BJP at a young age in 1977.

Bhardwaj reported Corona positive on August 31 and was being treated in a hospital in Rajkot from where he was shifted to a Chennai hospital for specialized treatment on October 9 as some complications developed in his health conditions.

Bhardwaj was elected to the Rajya Sabha along with Ramilaben Bara and Narhari Amin of the BJP and Shaktisinh Gohil (Congress) in a keenly-contested election for four seats to the upper House in June, this year, leaving out the fifth candidate Bharat Solanki of the Congress.

The prime minister Narendra Modi, the state BJP president C R Paatil, chief minister Vijay Rupani, deputy chief minister Nitin Patel and the state Congress president Amit Chavda were among those who paid rich tributes to Bhardwaj on his untimely demise.
