Former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev admitted in Delhi hospital due to chest pain

New Delhi: A legendary Indian cricketer and Former captain Kapil Dev admitted in the Fortis hospital Delhi due to chest pain.

Fortis hospital informed in statement that Kapil Dev underwent an emergency coronary angioplasty after complaining of a ‘chest pain’ but now he is in a stable condition. He is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for supervision and He is expected to be discharged in a couple of days.

A former test player and Indian Cricketers Association president Ashok Malhotra said that “He is feeling okay now. I just spoke to his wife. He was feeling uneasy yesterday (Thursday). He is undergoing check-ups at a hospital as we speak,”

“Kapil Dev was evaluated and an emergency coronary Angioplasty was performed by Dr. Atul Mathur who is Director of Cardiology Department in the middle of night,” a statement from Fortis Escorts hospital say.

Kapil Dev led India to its first-ever major world title in cricket when they shocked mighty West Indies to become the world champions in 1983. Kapil Dev is widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders to have played the game. He finished his Test career with 434 wickets — a then world record. He also scored 5248 runs in the test format at an average of 31.05.

He played 225 One-day Internationals and picked up 253 wickets, in addition to scoring 3783 runs. His knock of 175 not out against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup is still regarded by many as one of the best ODI innings ever.

Several sporting personalities, including Indian skipper Virat Kohli, badminton star Saina Nehwal, former India opener Gautam Gambhir and well-renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter to wish him a speedy recovery.
