Farmers Plan to March to Parliament on the Budget Day

NEW DELHI, Jan 25: After the tractor rally on the Republic Day, the agitating farmers have planned to take out a “morcha” to the Parliament house when the government will present the budget for the next financial year on February 1.

Announcing on Monday their next plan of agitation to maintain pressure on the government for the repeal of the three contentious farm laws farm leaders said march to Parliament was the next pan of their agenda. “On February 1, we will march on foot towards Parliament in Delhi from different locations,” said Darshan Pal from the Krantikari Kisan Union, one of the nearly 40 groups protesting near Delhi. The stir has been going on for two months now.

To put pressure on the government to withdraw these laws, the farmers have adopted different techniques since their protest launched on November 26. In December, they had organised a nationwide strike, blocking key roads in cities across the country.

Tuesday’s tractor rally is also the farmers’ plan to intensify their agitation after which they would attempt to reach Parliament building. The programme is certain to create intense pressure on the police and the government for possible clashes causing serious law and order problem when thousands of farmers try to enter into Delhi.

The police was wary over giving the farmers permission to take out the tractor rally inside the national capital and after a lot of deliberations have given conditional approval. A march to Parliament could upset the government’s plan to hold the farmers out on the borders of Delhi not allowing them to enter the national capital.
