ASSOCHAM GEM Green Building Council certifies Nation’s First Sustainable Luxury Leela Hotel over Gandhi Nagar Railway Station with GEM 5 Green Rating

16/07/2021, Gandhinagar: ASSOCHAM GEM Green Building Council certified LEELA Hotel, GNC Railway Station, Gandhi Nagar with GEM 5 level of achievement. GEM stands for Green and Eco-friendly Movement. The project is a part of the uniquely ambitious development of railway stations in India by adopting Form-based Codes into practice.

Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji inaugurated the newly invigorated railway station. He emphasized on the pledge to build a sustainable nation, which is in line with India’s Nationally Determined Contributions in the sustainability sector in par with global standards.

The Chairman of ASSOCHAM GEM Green Building Council Mr. Pankaj Dharkar emphasized on the importance of ‘GEM’ as an indigenous and implementable green building rating system, in the sub-continent of India, with its unique approach to including sustainability as a whole, including but not limited to ‘Energy Conservation Building Code’ (ECBC) and Life & Safety regulations, in the development of the nation.

GEM 5 level is the highest sustainability certification level (out of 1 to 5) in the GEM Green Building Certification Programme, which signifies that the revamping of the railway stations, is sustainable in approach, predominantly in the areas of energy conservation, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, imperishable energy, waste management, maximizing open spaces, proper ventilation, sustainable materials, and optimized landscape.  It is the way forward that the nation is looking for through an all-around cumulative development of buildings and facilities.
