New Delhi: Manipur became the latest state to cancel the state board examinations for classes 10th, 11th, and 12th for the academic year 2020-21 because of the second wave of the global pandemic Covid-19.

The Secretary of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, CH Biren Singh, announced the cancellation of the examinations for this year.  However, marks and certificates will be issued to the students after approval from the government.

Earlier, the Manipur Board of Secondary Education had postponed board examinations until May 5.

Education Minister S Rajen Singh said that many sectors, including education, have been adversely impacted because of the pandemic. “It was really difficult to decide whether the board and council examinations would be postponed or not.”

He informed that a 14-member committee has been constituted to develop an alternative evaluation mechanism for the students in class 10th and 12th.

The new decision might trigger a reaction amongst students and parents. “But we become helpless when sudden, unforeseen complexities arise in our society. I appeal to everyone to comply with the government’s decision.”
