Demise: National Awardee actor Surekha Sikri, 75, passes away

Mumbai: Veteran actor Surekha Sikri, a three-time National Award winner, passed away here early on Friday after a cardiac arrest.

She was 75. She is survived by her son Rahul.

“Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram,” her manager, Vivek Sadhwani, told the media.

The eminent actor, who worked in theatre, television, and films, achieved fame from the popular TV serial, Balika Vadhu, and gave stellar performances in films like Badhai Ho and Ghost Stories.

Born in Uttar Pradesh to a teacher mother and an Indian Air Force official father, Sikri graduated from the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) in 1971 and won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989.

She debuted in the film industry with the 1978 film Kissa Kursi Ka and received National Awards for films Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995), and Badhaai Ho (2018).

She suffered a brain stroke in 2020 after falling and hitting her head in the bathroom.
