Decorated armed forces leadership flag off Adani Ahmedabad Marathon closing ceremony

The first virtual app-based marathon raised INR 21 Lakhs for the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center (PRC), (Pune)

Ahmedabad, 7 December, 2020: Adani Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the country flagged off the fourth edition of the Adani Ahmedabad Marathon on 7th December 2020, an annual event dedicated to the bravery of our Indian soldiers. The theme #run4oursoldiers is an initiative to salute towards heroics of the Indian soldiers who commit their lives to protect the nation. Despite the Covid19 restrains the marathon was conducted successfully through a mobile application and runners were monitored on it.

The event #Run4OurSoldiers was conducted virtually through remote running with GPS tracking participants. Our aim since inception has always been to pay tribute to our soldiers and serve them in the most minimalistic way. This initiative enables us to serve as the major portion of the proceeds is contributed towards the welfare of the Indian Armed Forces.

This year the marathon extended its arm by adding the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center (PRC) donation feature. This gave a chance for all the runners to raise charity for a cause – Wings to the Wheelchair. 21 Lakhs were raised that was given to the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center, Kirkee, Pune. The uniqueness of the institution is that it stretches beyond the recovery of disabled ex-servicemen and building a holistic ecosystem for their families.

The dignitaries who graced the event and flagged off the marathon were, Mr. Pranav Adani, MD – Agro, Oil&Gas, Adani GroupAir Marshal S K Ghotia, PVSM, VSM,  AOC IN C, HQ SWAC, IAF and Major General Vijay Kumar Sharma M General Officer Commanding 11 infantry division. The renowned international athlete and coach, Norrie Williamson was the appointed Race Director for AAM 2020. This year we witnessed an influx of a total of 4,600 (4500 participants, 100 army soldiers) participants across the nation.

Commenting on the marathon, Mr. Pranav Adani, MD- Agro, Oil & Gas, said, “It is a proud moment for us to have the first of its kind Adani Ahmedabad Marathon that was conducted virtually. The annual marathon is very special as not only did we pay tribute to our fearless soldiers but we also raised support for the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Kirkee, Pune. I’m grateful for all participants who came out despite the COVID19 challenges, keeping in mind the restraints and participated in the event.”
