COVID-19: Myanmar detects three new variants in five cities

New Delhi: The Health Ministry of Myanmar on Tuesday detected three new variants of coronavirus. All new variants are detected in five different cities.

According to a media report, the Southeast Asian nation reported 11 cases of Alpha, Delta, and Kappa COVID variants.

Out of the 11, one each was recorded in Yangon and Kalay, four in Mandalay, three in southern Myeik, and two in northwestern Tamu. Two people were infected with Alpha variant, five with Delta variant, and four with Kappa.

Earlier on Monday, the former head of Myanmar’s COVID-19 immunization program was arrested and faced charges of high treason for colluding with opponents of the military authorities.

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), Myanmar has so far seen 146,051 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 3,248 deaths.

The Myanmar-based medical experts have predicted that new could be a huge challenge for Myanmar and the rest of the world also. A few variants of coronavirus have already disturbed the routine life of people and damaged the economy of all nations.

Myanmar government and other nations should take immediate steps to prevent the spread of new variant, experts in his shared views.
