New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Delhi – Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday urged people to not celebrate Diwali with crackers this year. Kejriwal asked them to join him and his ministers instead in a ‘Laxmi Pujan’ programme to be organised by the government on the day of the festival on November 14.
Kejriwal said that “We will celebrate Diwali together, On Diwali, from 7:39 pm, we, the people of Delhi, will chant Lakshmi Puja together. I along with the ministers in the Delhi government will start ‘Lakshmi Puja’, which will be aired by certain television channels. I appeal you all to join me virtually. I believe chanting ‘Lakshmi Puja’ will create a positive atmosphere in Delhi and it will be good for people,”
On the coronavirus spread and pollution – Kejriwal added that “our Delhi city is facing two major problems in which – one is Coronavirus pandemic and second is rising air pollution in the city. The COVID-19 situation is deteriorating in Delhi due to rising air pollution so please don’t burst crackers at any cost. You are playing with the lives of your own family by bursting crackers,”
Kejriwal on Wednesday said that “the city has seen a jump in the number of new coronavirus cases in the last couple of days and it can called third wave,”
Kejriwal appealed to do not panic and said that “Delhi government monitoring the situation continuously. The government will take whatever steps are needed.”
