An era of emojis , making life tougher for the words

Social Share

Face with tears of joy

Is the new digital toy

A loudly crying face

Means a Sobbing case

Smiling face with Heart Eyes

Is a Trophy for all the guys

Then comes a Red Heart

Signalling a great start

And the folded hands

Means Respect It Commands.

A poem on few top rated emojis on the occasion of World Emoji Today.

Imagine communicating, without emoji . It would have consumed great amount of time and also would have generated millions of bytes of e-waste. A quick search in google throws up this result “every day more than 900 million emojis are sent in messenger without text”.  That shows the amount of time and effort that the world has saved.

Emojis have come a long way in making lives easier.

Emojis have been playing a great role in evolution of communication. Since its launch, almost 15 years ago it has reached to a population of slightly more than 2800 emojis today. ( Source – Google )

In 2018, the “Thinking Face” was awarded the best emoji. That goes on to say that, the world is thinking for sure, or making an effort to understand what’s been communicated. In the process one point that remains debatable is, are we losing out on the art of communication using words.

So here is a word of caution for the “World of Alphabets and words ” community.  The Emojis are racing at jet speed. There is something that you 26 alphabets need to do, so that we as humans don’t forget the art of oral and written communication. As we are getting into Machine Learning and AI era, maybe in years to come, instead of words and numbers , maybe emojis will be used for coding. And this will signal the death of the 26 wise English alphabets which still rules the world of communication.  So buck up words and numbers. Show the world that you are here to stay.
